How it works...

All our Mathematics tutors here at Marney Maths are true specialists in their fields. We interview each and everyone of our tutors, test subject knowledge and run Enhanced DBS checks, so you can rest assured that your child is in capable hands.

The perfect tutor / student match

When we receive your enquiry, we will assign a suitable tutor to you that we feel meets the students’ specific requirements and availability stated. The more you can include in your enquiry, the better, so we can make sure your tutor is the perfect match!

We will send you an email showing their profile so you can check you are happy, before we connect you both.

Chat with your tutor before you book

At a time that is convenient to you, your assigned tutor will arrange a complimentary 15 minute video call so you can chat directly with your tutor to further discuss what you are looking for help with, ask any questions you may have and check that you feel the tutor’s teaching style will work well with your child.

Straight forward set-up

If you are happy to go ahead, your tutor will send you through a pack containing all the relevant information you need to set up online and will schedule in the first session in the diary with you - exciting stuff!

What you need...

1Reliable Wi-Fi

It’s important for our students to have a good Wi-Fi connection to make sure our sessions are as seamless as possible.

We recommend that if your Wi-Fi is not always the strongest, to try to set up your work station as close to the router as possible to avoid any interference, and we ask that our students’ households try to not stream whilst the session is taking place.

2A smart device

It’s important that our students have access to a smart device for video conferencing and access to the online whiteboard.

If you have 1 or more of the following stated below, you are good to go!

  • Desktop computer
  • Laptop
  • iPad / Tablet
  • iPhone / Smartphone

We use software called Liveboard for access to an online Mathematics whiteboard, that we pair with video chat e.g. FaceTime / WhatsApp call / Zoom (for group sessions).

We tailor our session set up dependant on the devices our students have access to. We will discuss this with you prior to the sessions, to make sure all parties are happy.

3A distraction-free workstation

We recommend that our students have access to a clear table to work at, free of distractions, in a quiet part of the house.

For our students who find they get distracted easily, we suggest the use of bluetack or stress balls which are great to help retain focus and aren’t noisy, so don’t affect the quality of the call.
